July 4th

In 1776, on July 4th is the day our forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence. We celebrate that day and most people have off from work and gather with family and friends for a BBQ.  They also gather in the evening to see a firework show.

This year you too can host a BBQ.  You can make it simple with just hamburgers and hot dogs.  If you want you can add chicken and ribs.  Don’t forget corn on the cob.  That is a great thing to cook on the grill.  To go along with that food you can have cole slaw, potato salad, macaroni salad, a garden salad and grill veggies.  For dessert since this is summer you should have summer fruit like cantaloupe, honeydew, crenshaw melon, watermelon, grapes and cherries.  If you want you can make homemade popsicle.  That is always a refreshing treat on a hot day.

Another good option for that day is, you might also want to watch some iconic movies that we think are perfect for this holiday.  One is “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” which is the story of George M Cohan, and it stars Jimmy Cagney.  George M Cohan was a famous songwriter and actor from the Vaudevillian age but most of his songs you may know of but never realized that he wrote them.  Three songs for instance are “Yankee Doodle Dandy,”  “Grand Ole Flag and “Give my Regards to Broadway.” This movie is always on TV on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) every July 4th. George M Cohan was also born on July 4th.

Another movie that we think is great to watch on this day is Top Gun. It stars Tom Cruise who just so happen was born on July 3rd.   This is a great movie to watch with your friends. It is about those who fight for our freedom and those who enjoy, “The need for speed.”

If you don’t want to have a BBQ or watch movies you can go see some fireworks. Please be responsible and do not shoot off any of your own fireworks. We do not want you to hurt yourself or others.  There are many shows across the country that you go to.
