Mamma Mia

This movie is based on the Broadway Musical of the same name. The story is based on the songs of ABBA.

Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) sings opening bars of "I had a dream" Sophie had gone on a search for her three fathers. They were at different points of the world. We see her at a mail box sending wedding invites to her 3 possible fathers, Sam Carmichael  (Pierce Brosnan) , Bill Anderson (Stellan Skarsgård) and Harry Bright (Colin Firth).

Then we get a glimpse of all 3 men from their points of their world leaving for the wedding.

Sophie meets up with two of her friends Ali (Ashley Lilley) and Lisa (Rachel McDowall) and tells them that she has a secret as she shows off her engagement ring. One of them thinks that Sophie's "knocked up". They are happy to get together and scream. Sophie immediately clarifies that no she is not pregnant, but that her father has been invited to the wedding. She further tells her friends that her mom told her that it was a summer romance and that her dad had left before her mom had realized that she was pregnant with her.  She had accepted it.  She had gone through some old trunks and found the diary of the year her mom was pregnant with her. As she is reading the diary to her friends she is singing "Honey, Honey"

Sam and Harry unbeknowst to them meet Bill when they miss their ferry to Kalokairi. On the way to see Donna (Meryl Streep), Rosie (Julie Walters) who is with Tayna (Christine Baranski) signs her book for a guy named Stavros (Ricardo Montez).  However, Rosie gets freaked out by a dead fish that she sees in a random lady’s basket and screams because it's looking at her and has big teeth.

Sky (Dominic Cooper) who is Sophie’s fiancé walks in the room as Ali and Lisa are trying on their bridesmaid dresses. Sophie tells her friends after he leaves that she hasn’t told him that her dads are coming to the wedding because she didn’t want him stopping her from inviting them.

Donna then goes to meet up her friends Tanya and Rosie as they get off the ferry. Donna introduces Sky to Tanya and Rosie.

On the ferry that Bill, Sam and Harry are taking to the island of Kalokairi they talk to one another and find out that they know Donna but haven’t seen her in 20 years.

As Donna arrives to her hotel Tanya and Rosie meet Sophie.  Donna is showing her friends around her hotel where things are falling apart she sings “Money, Money.”  She is daydreaming that if she had some big amount of money she would not have to work again.

Sam, Bill, and Harry arrive to the island just in time for the wedding and see and meet Sophie for the first time. She brings them to their room in the goat house via a back way. They ask to meet her mom since it has been so long. She tells them how she sent the wedding invites and it was a longshot that they'd even come. Sam and Harry aren’t sure they want to stay but Bill said it will be and adventure. They hear Donna singing but Sophie warns them to stay quiet.

Donna thought she heard a noise and she was right.  She slightly opened the door the room to see Sam, Bill, and Harry. She walks to other entrances just to make sure and sings "Mamma Mia.” Finally on the roof she falls through leads to Sam, Bill and Harry. Sam tells Donna "You always knew how to make an entrance." Donna tells the men they should leave the island.  Then she leaves their room crying.

Donna goes in search of Sophie and find her friends who try to comfort her. They sing "Chiquitita". They wash her face and fix her hair. Donna inform her friends that Sam, Bill and Harry are here staying in the goat house and she is not sure who Sophie’s father is. Tayna and Rose go to see the men in person but they are not there.  This is when Donna starts feeling sorry for herself and thinks she is a slut because she slept will all three guys and doesn’t know who Sophie’s father is. Her friends tell her she sounding like her mom and cheer her up by singing "Dancing Queen". They dance all over the island and all the women of the town begin to follow them. We see Benny Andersson of ABBA playing the piano on the pier.  When they reach the end of the pier, Donna throws Tayna and Rose in the water then does a cannonball in the water herself.

Sophie and her friends see Sam, Bill and Harry getting ready to leave. She takes a swim to catch up to them. She reminds them that they had promised to attend her wedding. She notices that Harry took her mom’s guitar and he points his out the initials.  He explains how he bought Donna the guitar.  He sings "Our Last Summer" and tells Sophie about the last time he saw Donna. Back on the hotel Donna tries to figure out who Sophie’s dad is by matching her baby pictures to the pictures of the men.

When Sophie arrives back on the island she sees Sky and he asks where she was. She begins to tell him about her dads but he doesn’t want to hear it. They begin to fool around and sing "Lay All Your Love On Me."  His friends arrive to take him to the bachelor party.

That night at the bachelorette party, Donna and her friends recreate “Donna and the Dynamos” and sing "Super Trouper" They spot Sam, Bill and Harry.  Rose tells them to leave since no men are allowed at the party. Bill, Harry, Sam go to the bar but the girls at the bachelorette party come to get them.  They round like up like cattle and commence to sing "Gimme a Man (After Midnight)"

At the party, Sophie talks each of her perceptive fathers to see if they are her Dad.  Just then Sky and his friends invade the party and everyone is dancing and singing to "Voulez Vous" While this is going on Sam, Bill and Harry go up to Sophie separately and ask her if they are her father and say they will walk her down the aisle tomorrow. Now the crowd is dancing in circles around Sophie. This is too much for Sophie to take and she faints.

This is where we will leave you.  Watch the movie to see what happens next.  It is highly recommended that you stick around for end credits.
