Summer Camp Care Packages Tips

Some Tips on What to Send for a Summer Camp Care Package

If you have a child, who is away at summer sleepaway camp you might want to send them something to keep them busy during the quiet time at camp.

(1.) Check the rules of the camp.  Some camps might not allow anyone to receive packages.  Check their website or just call them.  They also might have certain items you can and cannot send in the package.

(2.) Do not send food to a sleepaway camp.  Most camps do not permit this.  They do not want the bunks to get dirty or create an atmosphere for unwanted critters.

(3.) Send something the whole bunk can enjoy.  This way your child can share with the other children.  There  maybe someone in the group who doesn’t get anything from home.  You can send MadLibs or Playing Cards.  If you send playing cards why not get a book that explains the rules for different card games.  Sticker or fake Tattoos would be good but again check with the camp to see if these items are allowed.  Some camps might not allow stickers at camp because they don’t want the camper to put them on their bunks or anywhere else at camp.

(5.) All types of books are the best thing to send.  You can send paperback books but not only from their school’s summer reading list but how about a book that is just fun to read.  Comic books are great to include in the package.  Send coloring books with crayons. You can include word search or crossword puzzles with a pen.

(6.) Include stationary with self-address stamped envelopes.  This way you might be assured a letter for the child.  Include an envelope with their grandparents’ address too.  It is always nice that they say hi to them.

(7.) Less is best.  You do not need to send a big care package. There isn’t much room in the bunks at camp so don’t send a lot of stuff.

(8.) Make sure to put your name and address on the package.  The camp will not accept unmarked packages.  They will be sent back to the post office.  Before you send it write your name and address on the package itself.

(9.) If you have a child who either goes to day camp or didn’t go to any camp then you can still give them a package at home.  It will keep them busy all summer.

(10.) There are companies that sell care packages.  You can find them on Amazon.com. Walmart also has packages that you can send just look on their website.  There is also this company called Beyond Bookmarks that you can buy the care packages from.
