Memorial Day

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is not only a day off of work or school for you but it is also the day we remember those who have served and sacrificed for our country.  Please take a moment and remember not only our military who have died  protecting our country but also the families they left behind.

If you are near military cemetery you can plan and go and visit.  Visit the ones who don’t have anyone to remember them.

Here is information on Arlington Cemetery.

Here is information on what else you can do to support the troops and their families.

Mother's Day Breakfast or Brunch

Mother's Day Breakfast or Brunch

Sunday is Mother’s Day.  For those of you who are Mothers, then we want to wish you a very happy day. Being a Mother is one of the hardest job in the world and your children should know that.  We hope that you get to spend the day relaxing and being waited on hand and foot.  Show your children this blog we will teach them how to make your day special.

A Mother should start this day with breakfast in bed.  If you don’t want to eat in the bed, that is okay, but someone in your life should make you breakfast. If you don’t want them cooking in your kitchen, then they can always take you out to brunch.

We think the best place for brunch is The Cheesecake Factory. They have a very extensive menu that everyone can find something for everyone to eat.

The next best place to go is Marie Callendar’s

If you don’t like these suggestions then you can find a great place on Yelp.

If you want to attempt to make breakfast at home, but can’t cook, you may want to order take-out from a  restaurant.

You can try to cook the breakfast yourself for your mother.  Make it simple, scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast.    If your mom is a vegetarian or is allergic to eggs, pork or potatoes, then find out what she normally has for breakfast and serve that.  You can serve her oatmeal with soy or almond milk and some fruit.  Even easier a fruit bowl.  You can stop by Whole Foods and pick something up.

Here are the recipes:

Whatever you do, make sure that your Mom has a relaxing day.  If you are cooking at home, then clean up after so she doesn't have to.  Remember your Mom is one of the reasons you are here.  We need to celebrate her.  If you were raised by someone other than your Mother, this is the day you should remember them too.  Don’t forget your Grandmothers because if it wasn't for her your own Mother wouldn't be here.  If you do not live near that Mother figure in your life then pick up the phone and call them.

Once again to all the Mothers out there have an amazing day.  We hope you get to spend it the way you want to.  Then tell the Fathers out there his day will in June and he will be honored on that day.  This day is just for Mom.

April is Easter and Passover

This weekend some of you will be celebrating either Passover or Easter. Passover is the 8 day holiday when the people of the Jewish Faith commemorates when they were free from slavery.  The first two days of the holiday there are two Seders.  That is when they tell read the Haggadah which tell story of how Moses made Pharaoh free the slaves.  After the story is read there is a dinner with family and friends.  This is the holiday where certain foods are not allowed to be consumed for 8 days.  That is bread.  Instead they will eat Matzo.  There are many things that you can make with Matzo.  We will show you how to make Matzo Brei.  It is the Jewish version of French Toast. This is perfect for a Sunday Brunch.

Easter is the holiday when the people of Christian faith celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Some will go to church for Sunrise Service then come home for and Easter Brunch.  We have some suggestions for brunch. The easiest things to make is a Breakfast Casserole and Cheesy Potatoes.  If you want you can serve these for Passover too. We will tell you how.

If you have any vegan friends who will be coming to your brunch we have a suggestion for a rice salad.  The only suggestion we have for your vegan friends for the Passover brunch is just regular salad.

We also have some suggestions for movies to watch for these holidays.  The Disney Channel will be playing the movie Hop.  This movie blends animation with live action. It is about Easter Bunny legacy.  It stars Russell Brand as the voice of EB, who is son of the Easter Bunny.  EB doesn't want to follow in the family legacy.  He wants to be a musician.  He leaves Easter Island to go pursue what he wants.  He meets Fred O'Hare (James Marsden), who is a human.  Fred is currently unemployed and not sure what he wants to do. When he was young he saw EB’s father delivering the candy and always a curiosity about the bunny. Watch the movie to see what happens.

 Hop

The movie suggestion for Passover is a cartoon possibly from your childhood, A Rugrats Passover.

What ever you will be doing this weekend just have a good time.  You don’t need to celebrate either holiday to enjoy the food.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

March 17th is St. Patrick’s day. This holiday is when everyone worldwide helps celebrate the Irish culture.  There are parades, dancing  and wearing of the green.  It is also the day you may find many people drinking.  Not to mention the day when you may want to eat Corned Beef and Cabbage.  This is the time of year that McDonald’s sells their Shamrock Shake.  We will help you understand the meaning behind the holiday.  We will also give you some recipes so you can make your own special foods.

The History Channel has a perfect website that helps explains the meaning behind holiday. They have videos that will show you all the things that we know about St. Patrick’s Day.   It will tell you about St. Patrick himself.

Here is a recipe for Corned Beef and Cabbage. With a little research we have found this to be a gluten free meal.  You may want to check the spice package that comes with the brisket just to make sure.  We will also give you a vegetarian version.

The easiest thing to do is go out and buy a shamrock shake from McDonald's but if you want, you can make one at home.  Here’s how.

Now, if you will be going out and drinking that day please do not drive.  Make sure at least one person in your group is sober.  What you should do is buy them soda’s all night long.  If no one in your group is sober then call a taxi.  JUST DO NOT DRIVE!!!

Have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

Happy Pi Day 3.14

In honor of Pi Day, we will be sharing 2 of our favorite pies.  They are easy to make and can be enjoyed year round. Both pies are basic pies that you use instant pudding, milk and ready to use pie shells.  The recipes are from Kraft.

The first is a classic with a twist, Cherry-Chocolate Pie.  If you like chocolate pie and want to make a little bit fancy then you can add cherries.

The next is a Banana Split Pie

What pie will you be celebrating Pi Day?

Frozen February with a little bit of Serendipity

Frozen February with a little bit of Serendipity

February is month that celebrates love. The movies we have picked for this month has to do with love.  It will show you how you will know who is truly meant to be in your life.  Ever get the feeling you should be going following one path but you don’t listen to it. You follow another path even if isn't good for you.  Then that original feeling gets stronger till you finally have to follow it. That is when you finally realize who you are meant to be with along.

Frozen is the first movie we have for you.  Frozen is a very popular Disney movie from 2013.  This movie is based on Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tale “The Snow Queen.” This movie tells the story of two sisters Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell) who find out what true love is.  To find out more about this movie here is the link

Serendipity is a love story about how Jonathan Trager (John Cusack) and  Sara Thomas (Kate Beckinsale) meet and fall in love.  They let Fate takes is course to show them if they really belong together.  To find out more about this movie here is the link ...

The perfect dinner to go with this is comfort food. You should make a individual pot pies.  Pot Pies is perfect for the winter and sure to warm you up.  Here is how you do that

For dessert make peppermint cupcakes with blue frosting to go along with the movie Frozen. Here is the link to that recipe

If you don’t want to bake you can order Frozen Hot Chocolate from the restaurant Serendipity to go along with that movie. Go to the restaurant's website to order it from their website. http://www.serendipity3.com/

Now sit back and enjoy the company of your friends, family or your significant other.
